by Brandon McLagan
Plummer bred cattle have become a very hot item in the bucking bull industry. These cattle are probably the oldest line of cattle that were bred to buck. On Saturday, March 9th, 2002, fifteen of the industries top Plummer breeders offered 53 lots of Plummer bred cattle at an auction in Fort Worth, Texas. The Legacy Sale was held in conjunction with the Tenth Annual Tuff Hedeman Championship Challenge at the Will Rogers Memorial Center. The 53 lots grossed a total of $124,650.
Sandie Bonsall of Minneola, KS. was one of the sale's top buyers together with his partner, Dr. Mark Pick of Dodge City, KS. who was not present for the sale. Mr. Bonsall purchased the high selling "3 in l", recip. pair, and weanling heifer.
The high selling overall lot was lot 18. This "3 in l" was a spotted coming 6 year old horned cow, #P625. She was by #00 Super Dave and out of a Naccarato bred dam. She sold with a bull calf at side by #790 Mossy Oak Mudslinger. She was bred back to #790 Mossy Oak Mudslinger. Dillon and H.D. Page, long time Plummer breeders from Ardmore, OK. consigned this lot which sold to Bonsall for $7,250.
Gene Baker of Homestead Rodeo Genetics based in Anson, TX. sold the high selling weanling heifer and the high selling recip. pair, lots 38 and 39. Bonsall also purchased both of these lots for $6,750 and $6,000 respectively. These heifers were full sisters, both by #329 Houdini and out of a Wolfman daughter.
Kevin Wallace the owner of KW 69 Cattle Company from Hobbs, N.M. bought the top selling open heifer, Lot 23. She was a horned brindle daughter of #790 Mossy Oak Mudslinger and out of a Romeo bred cow #986 who also went back to A6 on the bottom side. Dillon and H.D. Page consigned this heifer which brought $5,250.
The Pages also consigned both of the high selling bred females. Lots 21 and 24 sold for $4,600 each. Jerome Davis from Archdale, N.C., bought Lot 21. She was a 4 year old black and white spotted cow by A6 and out of a Kephart cow bred to #790 Mossy Oak Mudslinger.

Norris Dalton of Petrolia, TX. consigned the high selling embryo lots. Both were out of #CP 13 First Lady, an original Plummer cow. One of the embryos was by #77 Yellow Jacket, the l999 PRCA World Champion Bucking Bull. The embryo sold to Doug Joseph of Berthoud, CO. The other embryo was by Wrangler Rivets, who is the father of #77 Yellow Jacket, #125 Moody Blues and #331 Locomotive Breath and the grand sire of #61 Little Yellow Jacket who was the 2001 PBR Reserve Bucking of the Year.
